Making sure that you are not spamming, including unsubscribe option, and having a safe and interesting email is hard, but very rewarding. Email marketing is a tool which can boost, improve and expand your business all at the same time. Generating email database however, is the difficult part. So what do you do to start a great and rewarding email campaign?

Gathering emails, harvesting, collecting etc. – You can’t send your email campaign without having any emails to send to, so what can you do to collect emails? Friends, family, social links, forums, sign up pages, landing pages, pay per click campaings and any other way that you can think of. Yes, you have to take your time and make a strategy for email collection. They have to be relevant to your future campaigns, and you have to collect at least a 100 to start your email campaign. Friends – ask them to share your landing page or sign up form with anyone they know and who might be interested in your services/products. Family – ask them to spread the word around and try and get emails your way. In person – ask people who you work for to give you their email address so you can update them on your services, products or whatever you are offering. Social media – again spread the word, tell them you want them to sign up and that you are building a newsletter campaign for easier updates. There is no shame in asking for emails, back in the day people asked for business cards, now you can ask for emails, and if they give you the email, its the same as if they’ve subscribed. Landing pages – create landing pages and give some useful information if people sign up, it’s an easy way to get quite a few emails. Sign up forms – if you are having a pay per click campaign with sign up form, you will gather emails fast and build your targeted audience in your time, keep not that pay per click campaigns cost, so this is the option for those who want to invest money in email sending.

Creating successful email campaign – you can create beautiful emails with simple tools such as wordpress, or you can go online and find some text to HTML editor, either way you can create a beautiful interactive email with pictures without ever needing to know HTML, coding or any programming language.

Integration – use mailchimp or something similar for your campaings, this way you can automatize the subscription, have safe unsubscribe option and do the testing afterwards. See who clicked on the link, how many visits, who purchased your product, service or anything that you are offering, and keep track of all relevant details for the future campaings. Even if your first campaign is unsuccessful, you will still gather enough data to know what to change and the clear strategy for the next campaign. In fact most of the first email blasts are used for exactly that, getting the feel of your customer base and what they want.

Spam – do not spam, that’s a big NO NO! Do not send emails to people you don’t know, people that didn’t sign up or opt in. Imagine someone coming at your door, opening your door and telling you he wants to sell you these great basketballs. Would you buy them? No, you would kick him out of the house or call the police. That’s the point with emails too, they are personal, and people hate being spammed. If you are unsure if someone wants an email, create a list of those, send them sign in forms and see if they are willing to subscribe for future news and updates from you or your company.

 

I’ve myself have sent over 300k emails in 2015, and I never had a problem with spam. There were some emails marked at spam, but it’s under 2% which is consider very safe and normal in the industry. So what I am saying is very relevant to an email campaign, so use this text wisely and make sure you follow the advice.

Why are my email campaigns so effective?

First I make sure that I target the right people, there are many companies that offer email marketing, but most of those emails will go straight into a spam folder, in fact most of those emails are not even working emails (bounce backs). I am not saying not to buy and use those email addresses, I am just saying that in most cases you just won’t get what you paid for. So keep safe with subscribers and stay away from purchasing the lists from unknown sources.

Do not put Dear Mr….. I have the best offer….I have something amazing….. you haven’t seen this yet….you are getting the best dea…. – ALL SPAM

Yes all of these emails will go into the spam folder, or will be clicked on as spam email. In todays world the spam filters have been updated and made perfect so that most of these emails (and just look at your spam folder and you’ll see all these words) will just end up as spam.

You have something to offer, say it. Do not sugarcoat it, don’t play around, say as it is.

People don’t like offers, sales, discounts etc (unless they are in the store or are your customer) so why do you offer a discount to somebody you don’t know, somebody that hasn’t tried your product yet ? What would you think about somebody offering discount right away? It would seem as a scam to you, and it probably is, so again just play it straight and make it a direct email.

Whatever you offer there is a market for it, someone needs it, you just have to find the right people.

Best emails are always from your website! People signing up for your newsletter want your product, your stories or you, so get their emails and send them what they want.

Build a newsletter form and collect emails through your website.

You can always buy leads, emails, but always remember that you have to make your email campaign unique, spam free and always have unsubscribe option.

    1. Could be the browser glitchs. Thank you for kind words, well the most important thing is to keep your blogs long. I don’t do that myself, since I am not a blogger per se, I make this as tips and tricks for people to educate themselves on some ways of emailing, marketing and things that they can do themselves if they don’t want to pay for services.
      But the general rules for blogs are:
      Keep them over 2,000 words – a must! Make sure they are informative and eduactional, so people respond. Update me on any blogs you have and I will gladly contribute.
      Keep them optimized and SEO friendly, as I see SEO in your name I am sure you already know.
      And most important tip, do research before writing, you can even start rewriting articles in your own words, then moving on to writing your own articles. This is a great way to start writing, same as you teach someone how to draw. First copy and then do your own design. So reading blogs that are relevant to what you are about to write, and rewriting the content is a great way to start. Keep your blog fresh and always update it with information – social media integration is a must.

    1. Thank you, well if you can keep up the blogging. I do what I can with the time I have. Not much free time so I do a blog when I can. A little promotion and it gets seen. So all you have to do (if you have time) make sure you connect with right people on social medias, have your friends share, and keep on posting something useful for people to share and read.
      For me it’s a job, for others it might be great information to expand their business easy way. Everything can be done by the person reading this, but depends on how much free time they have.

Anything that I post is relevant to marketing and done by myself, so it’s proven to work if you take the precautions and do it the safe and effective way (not spamming).

      I will keep on writing blogs, the only problem for me right now is the time I have on my hands. Being a family man I really wish I had more time between work and kids to give more free tips.
